Open-Launch alternatives

12 tools that do a similar job, and what makes each one different.

What Open-Launch is

Open-Launch is a directory where makers submit a product and it is ranked against the other products launching on the same day. Submissions go in through a form at /projects/submit, and every launch goes live at 08:00 UTC. Listings are grouped into categories including Artificial Intelligence, SaaS, Productivity, Marketing Tools and Design Tools. A free launch costs nothing and puts the product on the homepage, but its backlink is conditional. A free launch earns a dofollow link only if the product finishes in the top three for its launch day and the product displays the Open-Launch badge on its own site. A premium launch costs 12 USD as a one-off payment per launch. It skips the waiting queue, goes live the next day, and carries a guaranteed dofollow backlink from what Open-Launch describes as a domain with a Domain Rating of 71. Only ten premium slots are sold per day. The SEO Growth Package costs 59 USD as a one-off payment, listed against a 199 USD reference price, and bundles a premium launch with a written review article about the product. Payments are final and non-refundable, and billing disputes have to be raised within seven days. The badge requirement is specific enough to be worth reading before you count on the link. Attribution must use one of the official Powered by Open-Launch image badges, because text-only attribution does not satisfy the requirement. The badge has to be at least 150 by 44 pixels, and it has to appear on every page of the linking site. Placement is not decided by the day's ranking alone. Open-Launch runs a submission streak system, and products from users with a high streak are given promoted placement on the main page. The software behind the site is released under a licence called the Open-Launch License, which permits use, copying, modification and redistribution provided the original copyright notice is kept. One condition attaches to that: any web application built on the Open-Launch codebase must display a dofollow link back to open-launch.com. Signing up to the directory itself asks for a name, an email address and a password, with a username and photo optional. The service records usage data such as pages visited and interactions, along with device type, operating system, browser and country. Open-Launch states that it does not sell personal data, and users can request deletion of their personal data, subject to legally required retention.

A startup directory where the free tier is earned rather than given: put their badge on your own homepage and your listing is reviewed and published within a week. Paid tiers skip the badge and go live immediately, and buy placement rather than inclusion. Outbound links are do-follow, which is the part most submitters are actually there for.

A professional network built for people who make things, where a profile is projects, code and writing rather than job titles. The weekly launchpad gives products a seven-day window instead of a single day, which suits teams that cannot orchestrate a one-day push. The community is engaged and smaller than the general-purpose networks.

Free

The launch board every other directory is measured against. Products post on a given day and compete for upvotes, and finishing near the top brings real traffic, sign-ups and press attention. Also a genuine community of makers and early adopters. The counter-argument is well rehearsed: the spike is one day, the audience skews toward people who try things rather than buy them, and coordinating a launch is most of the work.

Free

Lists early-stage startups before they have much to show, often pre-launch, gathering a waitlist. The audience is people who like being early, which makes it useful for a first few hundred sign-ups and feedback from users who expect rough edges. Submission is free with a paid option to skip the queue.

The ecosystem around Lottie, the format that ships vector animation as JSON. Animations stay sharp at any size, weigh a fraction of a GIF or video, and can be recoloured or controlled at runtime. The platform hosts a large library, converts from After Effects, and provides players for web and mobile.

Product analytics, session replay, feature flags, experiments and surveys in one open-source stack, which removes the usual problem of four tools that disagree about who a user is. Generous free tier, self-hostable, and SQL access to the underlying events. Broad enough that teams grow into it rather than out of it.

Freemium

Catches errors in production and tells you what you need to fix them: the stack trace with source maps applied, the release that introduced it, the browser or runtime, and how many users hit it. Groups duplicates so one bug is one issue. Performance monitoring and session replay sit alongside. Most teams install it after the outage that made the case for it.

Postgres with the things an application needs bolted on: authentication, row-level security, file storage, realtime subscriptions and auto-generated APIs. It is a real Postgres database, so `pg_dump` and any Postgres client work and leaving is a migration rather than a rewrite. Popular as a Firebase replacement for teams that would rather own SQL than a proprietary document store.

The hub open-source machine learning is organised around. Hundreds of thousands of models and datasets with versioning, model cards and licences, plus Spaces for hosting a live demo of any of them. The `transformers` library is the default way to load a model in Python. If a paper released weights, this is almost always where they are.

A terminal that treats each command and its output as a block you can navigate, copy and share, rather than an endless scroll. Input behaves like a text editor, history is searchable, and an assistant can read a failing command and suggest the fix. Workflows save parameterised commands for a team. Some of it requires an account, which is the objection people raise most.
