Badges

Two different things share the word. One is earned and cannot be bought; the other is a link exchange.

Award badges

Top three on a launch day, or top three across a week. Earned by where a listing finished and awarded by the job that closes the day. There is no code path from a payment to one, and the database has no foreign key that would allow it.

The weekly award is three per week against twenty-one daily ones, which is what makes it the rarer of the two.

The embed widget

Not an award. It is the reciprocal link: a free listing puts this on its own site, we check the anchor, and the listing earns a dofollow link back. Paid tiers do not need it.

Listing badges also ship with paid tiers and say so on their face. They are drawn differently from award badges for exactly this reason.

We check the link, not the image

Pasting the graphic without the anchor around it does not verify anything. The anchor is the part being checked. Because we serve the image, we also see it load whenever somebody visits your page, which is a live signal in between crawls. How verification works.

Embedding is optional and never affects where a listing ranks. It affects one thing: the rel on our outbound link to you, which is the trade being made and is stated plainly on the link policy.
