What Figma is

Figma is a design tool that runs in the browser. The product family covers Figma Design, Figma Make, Figma Weave, Dev Mode, Figma Motion, FigJam, Figma Slides, Figma Draw, Figma Sites and Figma Buzz, so interface work, whiteboarding, slides, websites and marketing assets sit inside one account. Figma Design carries auto layout, variables, components, slots, brushes, textures, grid layout, multi-edit, and branching and merging. Prototyping on top of it supports Smart Animate, interactive components, conditional logic and mathematical expressions, which is enough to demonstrate state changes rather than only screen-to-screen transitions. Files auto-save a version every 30 minutes. Dev Mode handles the handoff. Selecting a layer exposes code snippets, component properties and structured layer data, and a compare changes view shows two versions of a design side by side. Code Connect maps Figma components to their counterparts in production code, dev resources link a layer out to GitHub files, Jira tickets and Storybook stories, and a Figma MCP server pulls design system components into a codebase. The rest of the family covers adjacent work. FigJam ships more than 300 ready-made templates, integrates with Asana, Jira and GitHub, and offers 24 hour guest access without a login. Figma Slides imports PowerPoint files and supports live audience polls and an alignment scale. Figma Buzz generates images through OpenAI and Gemini models, removes image backgrounds, and imports, trims and exports video. Figma Make accepts text prompts, voice input, and attached designs, images, videos, audio, PDFs and text files. Figma Sites includes a CMS view for adding, editing and publishing page content. FigJam and Figma Slides are included with every seat on every plan. Seats come in three kinds, and the gap between them is the main budgeting lever. On Professional a Full seat is $16 per month, a Dev seat $12 and a Collab seat $3. On Organization those become $55, $25 and $5, and on Enterprise $90, $35 and $5. Organization and Enterprise are sold on annual billing only. The free Starter plan gives a single team with one folder and three files, while Professional gives a single team with unlimited folders. AI usage is metered in credits. A Professional Full seat carries 3,000 per month, Organization 3,500 and Enterprise 4,250, while Dev and Collab seats carry 500 each. Starter allows 150 a day up to 500 a month. Enterprise plans can allocate credits across teams, departments or cost centres and read usage through an AI credit usage API. Variable modes are capped at 10 on Starter and Professional and 20 on Organization, and are unlimited on Enterprise through extended collections.

Interactive animations built around a state machine rather than a timeline, so a graphic responds to input and events instead of just playing. Runtimes for web, iOS, Android, Flutter, React Native and game engines render the same file everywhere at a fraction of the size of exported video. Used for animated buttons, characters and loaders that react.

The ecosystem around Lottie, the format that ships vector animation as JSON. Animations stay sharp at any size, weigh a fraction of a GIF or video, and can be recoloured or controlled at runtime. The platform hosts a large library, converts from After Effects, and provides players for web and mobile.

Freemium

3D scenes designed in a browser and embedded like an image. Modelling, materials, lighting, physics and interaction are all in one editor, and the export runs on the web without a game engine. It is how a lot of marketing sites get a 3D hero without hiring a 3D artist. Watch the file size on mobile.

Freemium

Design for people who do not design for a living. Templates cover presentations, social posts, documents, video and print, and Brand Kits keep colours, fonts and logos consistent across a team. The generative tools handle background removal and image editing. Designers tend to be sceptical of it, and it is nonetheless how most non-designers ship something acceptable.

Open source, unlike Figma

Open source

Design a site and publish it, with no handoff step in between. The canvas works like a design tool and the output is a real responsive site with a CMS, forms, SEO controls and hosting. It suits marketing sites and landing pages where the design is the product; it is a poor fit for anything that needs custom backend logic.

Freemium

A CRM that models your pipeline instead of making you adopt theirs. Objects, attributes and relationships are defined by you, and it builds from real data, email and calendar activity populate records rather than waiting for someone to log them. Aimed at startups and investment teams whose process does not fit a standard sales funnel.

Freemium

Postgres with the things an application needs bolted on: authentication, row-level security, file storage, realtime subscriptions and auto-generated APIs. It is a real Postgres database, so `pg_dump` and any Postgres client work and leaving is a migration rather than a rewrite. Popular as a Firebase replacement for teams that would rather own SQL than a proprietary document store.

Freemium

Documents, databases and wikis in one workspace that bends to whatever shape a team wants, which is both the appeal and the risk. The same primitives make a meeting note, a project tracker, a CRM or a public site. Teams that agree on structure get a system of record; teams that do not get a sprawl nobody maintains.

Freemium

Issue tracking fast enough that people keep it up to date, which is the only property that matters in a tracker. Keyboard-first, opinionated about cycles and projects, and deliberately short on configuration. Popular with product teams who found the alternatives slow and over-configurable. If your process needs heavy customisation, that opinionation is a poor fit.

Freemium

Builds, tests and documents an API without writing a client first. Collections capture requests with environments and variables, tests run in CI through Newman, and mock servers stand in for endpoints that do not exist yet. Documentation generates from the collection, which is how it stays current. Ubiquitous enough that a Postman collection is a normal way to hand over an API.

Freemium

A spreadsheet that grew a schema, views and an API. Fields have types, records link to records across tables, and the same data appears as a grid, kanban, calendar or gallery. Automations and interfaces sit on top. It is where a lot of internal tooling starts, and per-seat pricing is where a lot of it stops.
